Responsibilities

 

What You'll Do:

  • Lead and shape the editorial direction of WRVA’s Morning Show with compelling, original content that drives listener engagement.
  • Collaborate with hosts, producers, the Brand Manager, and news team to create timely, informative, and entertaining show segments.
  • Actively participate in and oversee the creation of digital content across all platforms, including audio, video, and social media.
  • Engage directly with the audience on-air, on-line, and at live events, maintaining a consistent and authentic presence.
  • Coordinate interviews, breaking news coverage, and special features that elevate the show's reputation and relevance.
  • Operate control board and manage audio production elements as needed, ensuring seamless execution of each broadcast.
  • Monitor music, commercial logs, and ensure FCC compliance throughout the shift.
  • Represent the station at promotions, events, and remote broadcasts, supporting show and sponsor visibility.
  • Stay on top of local, national, and cultural trends to keep content fresh, informed, and in tune with WRVA’s audience.
  • Attend regular staff meetings, coaching sessions, and work closely with programming leadership to continuously refine the show's direction.
  • Other duties as required by management

 

Qualifications

Required & Preferred:

 

  • 5+ years of on-air and/or producing experience in a major or mid-market radio environment (News/Talk experience preferred).
  • Excellent communication skills, strong editorial judgment, and the ability to react quickly to breaking news and live content demands.
  • Proven expertise in audio production and control board operation; familiarity with systems such as Wide Orbit, VoxPro, and Adobe Audition.
  • Proficiency in digital content creation, social media engagement, and multi-platform storytelling.
  • Strong writing and video editing skills; ability to create short-form and long-form content for digital and on-air use.
  • Deep understanding of the Richmond market and/or a strong desire to connect with a local audience in a meaningful way.
  • Self-motivated team player who thrives under pressure in a fast-paced, high-profile environment.
  • A valid driver’s license, satisfactory completion of a motor vehicle record check, and, if the position requires use of applicant’s own vehicle, proof of insurance, is required.
