Overview

NewsRadio 1080 KRLD, Dallas-Fort Worth, has a rare opening for Editor. The ideal candidate is an upbeat, positive, and motivated news junkie who thrives in a fast-paced environment where content is driven by audience demands, breaking news, severe weather, and coverage of major traffic incidents. 

 

Responsibilities

What You'll Do:

  • Utilize all newsroom sources, including non-traditional and social media, to identify potential news stories relevant to KRLD’s strategy and target audience.
  • Review news stories of high interest and most relevance to NewsRadio 1080 KRLD’s audience.
  • Assemble, produce, and edit KRLD News content during the assigned daypart, free of any political or social bias.
  • Identify great audio, write and edit urgent and compelling copy for delivery on KRLD, coordinate story ideas and angles with reporters, help anchors confirm and prepare for live interviews, gather and write fresh local and national content throughout the shift.
  • Organize, develop, and coordinate assignments.
  • Communicate with the KRLD digital team to flag and/or supply relevant on-air content for digital distribution and consumption.
  • Communicate and coordinate with KRLD meteorologist and/or traffic teams during changing weather conditions, severe weather, and significant traffic incidents.
  • Stay up to date on current affairs and content planning for the day/week.
  • Creatively pursue new ways of presenting stories so that they have the most impact on the audience.
  • Confidence to suggest ideas to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of KRLD’s on-air presentation and strengthen relationships with listeners and advertisers.
  • Learn, understand, and be able to follow and implement KRLD strategy and Audacy policy and procedures.
  • Alert management to content that is questionable or that may be in violation of FCC, corporate or station policies and regulations.

Qualifications

Required & Preferred:

  • 1+ years of experience in an active newsroom environment preferred.

  • Familiarity with the Dallas-Fort Worth news environment preferred.

  • Must have excellent editorial judgment and deep understanding of current events, politics and news. 

  • Must possess strong multi-tasking skills.

  • Must be able to quickly pivot and produce content spontaneously based on changing news, breaking news, severe weather, etc.

  • Must be able to thrive under pressure, especially during breaking news, severe weather, and unrelenting news deadlines.

  • Must have an understanding of newsroom ethical and legal guidelines and restrictions that govern broadcast media.

  • Must be familiar with broadcast style, have excellent grammar and spelling. 

  • Must be able to incorporate audio into written stories.

  • Must be able to positively and effectively communicate with anchors, reporters, board operators, and the KRLD digital team. 

  • Must maintain a friendly attitude and positive interaction when talking with newsmakers, stringers, network counterparts, listeners, and the general public.
